- Community Schools
We continue to closely monitor wildfire activity around our community in partnership with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and the Boulder Office of Emergency Management. Firefighters have done an outstanding job closing the spread of the Cal-Wood and Lefthand Canyon Fires, and we are incredibly appreciative of their hard work and dedication to protecting our communities. We must remain vigilant and prepared for any changes to the fire’s activity, particularly with high winds forecasted for this afternoon through Thursday morning. Out of an abundance of caution, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has requested that we extend our closure of in-person learning at school in Lyons through the end of this week.
Beginning Monday, October 5, we will be implementing a hybrid in-person learning schedule for all students who are not currently enrolled in the LaunchED program. Click here to learn more. Comenzando el lunes 5 de octubre, estaremos implementando un programa de aprendizaje híbrido en persona para todos los estudiantes que no estén inscritos actualmente en el programa LaunchED. Hello! My name is Renee Quijas (key-hoss). I have been teaching in the St.Vrain Valley School District, and Red Hawk Elementary, since 2014. I began my teaching career in 1986 after graduating from Arizona State University. I taught Elementary Physical Education from 1986-1996. During that time I earned my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, married my sweetheart Ray, and started a family. Ray’s job has afforded us the opportunity to move and experience different parts of the United States. During that time, I took time off from teaching to spend time with our growing family.
Ray and I moved to Colorado in 2003. We live right here in Erie with our three daughters, Sophia, Micah, Sloane, and our dog Wrigley. After our move to Colorado, I was ready to pursue my love of teaching once again. From 2006-2014, I taught at the Wee School preschool in Erie. (There are many students here at Red Hawk who know me as “Miss Renee!”)
In my free time I love to cook, exercise, read, travel in our vintage RV, spending time with my family, and hanging out on our front porch after a busy week! I feel extremely privileged to be a part of the Red Hawk community, and look forward to another amazing year of learning!
