- Community Schools
We continue to closely monitor wildfire activity around our community in partnership with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and the Boulder Office of Emergency Management. Firefighters have done an outstanding job closing the spread of the Cal-Wood and Lefthand Canyon Fires, and we are incredibly appreciative of their hard work and dedication to protecting our communities. We must remain vigilant and prepared for any changes to the fire’s activity, particularly with high winds forecasted for this afternoon through Thursday morning. Out of an abundance of caution, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has requested that we extend our closure of in-person learning at school in Lyons through the end of this week.
Beginning Monday, October 5, we will be implementing a hybrid in-person learning schedule for all students who are not currently enrolled in the LaunchED program. Click here to learn more. I am tremendously excited for the opportunity to join the community of learners at Red Hawk Elementary. As a certified Orton-Gillingham Instructor and 19 year teaching veteran of the St Vrain Valley Schools, I look forward to partnering with students, parents and teachers to provide complementary and intensive reading support using OG Instruction. I began my career teaching 2nd grade at Rocky Mountain Elementary followed by 3rd grade at Spangler Elementary. After earning my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Literacy from the University of Colorado- Boulder, I became a full-time reading interventionist and have served in that role for the past 12 years. There was also a year in there where I went back to the classroom and taught fourth grade. I am an active and life-long learner and regularly lead fellow teachers in professional development around rigorous instruction that aligns to the Colorado Academic Standards, with a focus on building critical thinking and problem solving skills to help prepare students for success after high school. In addition, I earned my administrative license from the University of Denver and regularly apply my leadership experience from the head of the classroom. In my free time, I love to read, hike and spend time with my fabulous family including my husband Nelson and my daughter Jessica, along with my kitties Gloria and Lilly. I can’t wait for the start of the 2015-16 school year and the many wonderful new faces that I will meet as I join the Red Hawk team!
